Sailboat cockpit canvas project
This sailboat project combines cockpit shade, clear panels and tailored canvas work into a clean setup designed around the boat’s…
A rigid inflatable boat has multiple curves, fittings and equipment that need to be considered when creating fitted protection.
For this project, the shape of the boat was patterned directly on the vessel before fabrication. This helps translate the actual contours and attachment areas into a custom canvas solution.
The finished setup provides tailored protection while preserving access to the boat’s key components.

The project begins from the actual shapes and contours of the vessel.
Designed around the boat’s equipment, fittings and layout.
Finished covers protect selected areas while maintaining a clean fit.
These two views show the project at two different stages: the initial on-boat patterning process and the completed protective canvas setup.

Templates are created directly on the boat to capture its contours and surrounding fittings.

The completed covers follow the boat’s layout and provide fitted protection for selected equipment and seating areas.
On a rigid inflatable boat, relatively little space separates seating, controls, hardware and the inflatable tubes.
That makes accurate fitting particularly important. The patterning stage allows the canvas to follow the real geometry of the boat and work around the equipment already in place.
The finished pieces are shaped specifically for the areas they protect rather than relying on generic covers.
Templates follow the vessel’s actual contours.
Separate fitted pieces protect selected areas of the boat.
The fit works around existing controls and hardware.
A fitted solution helps keep key areas protected when not in use.
The finished project shows how custom patterning can turn the irregular shapes of a rigid inflatable boat into a coordinated set of fitted covers.
Each piece follows the area it is designed to protect, creating a clean overall appearance without hiding the character or configuration of the boat.

Every boat is different. Send us photos of your current setup and tell us what you would like to protect or improve.
Our team can review your project and discuss the next step.
